Chapter 5
WILHELM LIPHARD'S LIFE IN GERMANY

I have so far been unable to locate any baptismal record for Conrad's son Wilhelm. Again, all we have to go on is secondary information from various on-line genealogical sites. If his mother was Anna Maria Martin, he could have been born in Grossweier, Baden Wurttemburg in1699, to agree with his recording on the Queen Elizabeth's log that he was in 1738, 39 years old. On the other hand, Wilhelm may have at some point moved to Hesseldorf, Wachtersbach, Main-Kinzig-Kreis, Hesse, where some researchers believe he married in 1725 Catherina Elisabeth Neidhardt, born in 1702 or 1706 and died on July 23, 1795, in Cabarrus County, North Carolina (record in Reverend Storch's Diary). Her will is now lost but was dated 1795. Wilhelm died in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, where he and his family lived in 1781 or 1782; his will is dated 5 September 1781.

On Ancestry.com and My Heritage family researchers have displayed without documentation the following information concerning the proposed ancestors for Catharina Elisabeth Neidhardt. I am including this information concerning her ancestors in case it is true.

NEIDHARDT

Catherina's Parents
Johan Phillip Neidhardt born in 1671, Huttengerass, Hessen- Nassau; died 3 July 1727, Hesseldorf, Wachtersbach, Main-Kinzig-Kreis, Hesse.

J. Phillip's Parents Johan Steffan Neidhardt born 28 Jan. 1656, Huttengerasse, Hessen-Nassau; died 22 March 1731, Huttengerasse, Hessen-Nassau. Anna Catherina Koehler born 1663; died 1723 Huttengerasse, Hessen-Nassau.

BANF

Elizabethe Louise Wilhelmine's Parents Johann Peter Banf born 2 August 1689, Biedenkopf, Marburg, Hessen; died 3 Feb 1757.

It appears that when Catherina emigrated with Wilhelm and several of their children, she may not have left all of her birth family behind in Germany. Just several people ahead of Conrad on the Queen Elizabeth log, a young man who signed with an X and had his name interpreted by an English clerk as Christian Nighthart, age 35, may actually be Catherina's brother, Christian Neidhardt. It was normal for people from the same place in their country of origin to be listed close together indicating a family relationship or at least a close friendship.

The children of Wilhelm and Catherina were:
Johannes – born in 1734
Christian - born in 1736
Magdalena — born 1738
?James — born in 1743 -1804 (Iredell Co.
Catherina — born 1750
?Robert — born 1752

The above data is not all verified. Baptismal dates for all but James and Robert are recorded in the Falkner Swamp church records. We are not even certain that James and Robert belong to our family in that the Ancestry and My Heritage trees on line offer no verification. There was another family in Piedmont North Carolina with the name Lepper with sons James and Robert. In the mid 1700's when the Lippard boys would have been in their late teens, a James and Robert Leper/Leaper/Lepeer were buying up several thousand acres of land in Anson County, NC, and York County, SC. I have my doubts that these young men were our missing James and Robert Lippard. My first hesitation is that I am not familiar with the names James and Robert being German names rather than English or Scots Irish. Additionally, I cannot imagine how our young relatives at that time could have afforded such purchases even if on credit. However, James possibly is a Lippard in that a young man named James Lepard did purchase in 1753 and 1754 around 700 acres in Anson County on the south side of the Catawba River into which flowed what today is known as Lippard Creek, near Lincolnton.

Also much to our dismay, we are unable to find any additional information concerning Magdalena or Catherina, the daughters of Wilhelm and Catherina Lippard. Christian we will discuss a little later.

Wilhelm's only sibling, at least the only one to emigrate with her parents and brother Wilhelm was Anna Martha Liphard. For more information concerning Anna Martha, refer to the upcoming sections on Conrad's Will and the Heinrich Neiman/Neuman family.
